I started out, naturally, by cutting it out--I cut the pants out at the same time. I actually cut the lining out first--from some brown polyester lining material (my authentic streak didn't approve, but I cut anyway). Then, I used those pieces as the pattern pieces. Mainly, I guess, because I had a slight "fix" to the back that I cut into the lining.
Don't ask me why I started by piping the "tail fins"--but I did. I think they look pretty niffy! (See further down for what they look like on the garment!)
Meanwhile, I got the body put together...as well as the pants...the shirt...and the braces.
I next turned my attention to sewing down a lining panel...which would end up being partially ripped out again, but we'll get there momentarily.
