First on my list is a number of chemises. I'll be stocking Katherine and hope to make me another one as well. Come to think of it, I could stand to have another decent petticoat or so and probably so could Katherine. We'll cross that bridge post-chemise however. I would be making chemises today, only I misread the Jo-Ann's sale flyer and the muslin doesn't go on sale until THURSDAY. Bah. Went to town for nothin' yesterday!
Then I also have two corsets to make--one for me and one for Katherine (her's goes first since I have an old one I can keep wearing; might have to stitch a stay back in, come to think of it).
There is my new wash-dress to make. I suppose I could get started on that before I make chemises and corsets. I have this notion to try making it primarily off my measurements as practice, so that means I have to get re-measured in all the proper underpinnings.
I should like to make Katherine another dress as well...I have five yards (which is not enough) of a green that she really likes, so I'm thinking on what I can do with that to make her up a pretty, authentic dress.
However, the really BIG project that has me in a bit of an excited state (a bit? who'm I kidding!) is a Confederate general's uniform for a good friend! Andrew's family is hosting a dance--and I offered my sewing services--so between the two of us, we're trying not to break the bank and yet come off with an authentic as possible uniform. The whole ensemble includes the following:
- Pants
- Shirt
- Frock Coat
- Tie
- Sash
I have never done any actual tailoring, so I am most DEFINITELY going to be making a mock-up. Particularly since I plan on mostly drafting my own pattern. I shall be using pre-existing patterns to work off of to start with and then alter them beyond recognition! (heheh...) With such in mind, I have been staring at photos...and thinking...and staring at photos; repeat.
I've made doll-patterns...why can't I make adult-sized patterns??
Maybe I'm too ambitious....either way, I'd better get started on something. Even if it is lunch.
