So I chatted with the costumer and then ordered some of a lighter shade--which also arrived this past Thursday. I wasn't feeling well and was also in the middle of finishing up a non-sewing related project, so I decided to hold off on beginning until this week.
Yesterday afternoon I got the three little suits cut out. And then I crashed.
Today I managed to get most of the stitching done on the shorts...and I also sewed the revers and the sleeve lining in...and the "hem" of the shirt front facing. It doesn't sound like much, but considering that each seam on the shorts is flat-felled, it actually is two seams. Thus what would be four ends up being eight...eight times three is twenty-one (if my multiplication tables are still properly retained in my brain). In between seams I of course had trimming and ironing and careful pinning. I don't want to put any more holes than necessary in this taffeta stuff...
Speaking of which, the material is a little stiffer than I expected, but not quite so slippery. I have been pleasantly surprised that it is not as hard to work with as I was expecting (make that dreading). My sewing life has been primarily cotton-dominated and I have always shied away from anything slick because I know my patience level is not always where it should be and I'd rather not be inclined to have a temper tantrum in the middle of a garment. :}
The worst part is going to be the tucks...and perhaps the snap tape. I am not always pleased with my snap tape seams though I have gotten better at them.
I probably could have gotten a little further today, but around 4 PM I crashed and figured that my sanity and the quality of my work would be best served by calling a cease-fire and holding a truce until tomorrow. I hope to get all the machine work done tomorrow, but I won't rush it. On something like this, it is better to move slow and do a really good job--particularly as the lady did not actually give me a deadline on them. :)
