Saturday, March 26th, saw me addressing myself to the task of making the bridesmaid dresses for my sister's wedding. First was Katherine's...and I had a little issue with getting the pattern (partially 'me-drafted'--though certainly based on a 1950's pattern) laid right. The night before we had tested the fabric/length/etc and found that it would fit perfectly. However, after a few small tweaks, it ended up that the pattern did not land on the material as perfectly! I was a little wroth on and off over the course of a couple of hours...but things got settled out and cut out by shortly after lunch.
I had previously sewn the lining together, but as I looked at things, I decided that I had better rip the sides out (I also had to go back in and put the darts in as I had neglected that earlier!) and put the lining in after the following fashion:
I planned on attaching the skirt the next day, but didn't because I crashed--therefore, I sewed not. The day following the "crash-day", I did put the skirt on:
The zipper was next--and it too required re-stitching a bit of it because I didn't get close enough to the teeth the first time around.
That, of course, was followed up by the back seams of all three layers--which I stitched separately. I probably could have done a little better job on that front...
This is where I really loose track of time--my dress. I followed essentially the same steps at for Katherine's, so I hardly think it necessary to give you the play-by-play.
Savannah hemmed Katherine's dress one day since between Katherine and I we didn't get it right the first time.
I hemmed my dress--but that took three days to complete. One for each layer.
Three days before the wedding, I stitched hooks and eyes at the back of the necks and ironed them real good--and made the sashes! Cutting it kind of close, it was, but it got done.
Here's the finished dresses (also Abigail's, though she made her own) and the wedding dress. I think we turned out nicely, if I do say so myself....
